Artist Profile:

"The best thing that a human can do in life is to get rid of his

separateness and hand himself over to the nature of things - to this

mysterious thing called the universal order that any artist must

sense.  To put yourself in the way of that thing so that you become

a vehicle of it - that will be your only merit ..."

- Will Henry Stevens, American artist (1881 - 1949)

As an only child, I spent many hours entertaining myself hand-

making treasures.  Becoming a maker as an adult has been my

"Eureka!"

My home and studio are located "where the wind turns around"

between the North Toe River and a big pasture.  I can not help but

be inspired by the ever-changing colors and critters of these

Appalachian Mountains.  Observing the similarities of delicate

colors of Spring’s new growth and Autumn’s vibrant extravaganza is

a marvel to me.

I have always believed that creating is an essential part of human

nature.  The intuitive designs of Australian Aboriginal and Native

American cultures provide inspiration and encouragement for my

creative journey.

Assorted dyes and paints allow me to express seasons of color and

to share images from western North Carolina and my travels.

Whether I am making wearable accessories to jazz up an outfit or

wall hangings to brighten a living space, I want each piece to reflect

Nature’s beauty.
